Hi all!
Welcome back to another edition of Horse Racing Preview! This week's feature OF COURSE is the 133rd running of the Preakness Stakes! This is Race 12 from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD! This race is set for a mile and three-sixteenth on the dirt, and carries a one-million dollar purse!
Let's take a look at this ultra field:
Macho Again (FL) 20/1
Tres Borrachos (KY) 30/1
Icabad Crane (NY) 30/1
Yankee Bravo (KY) 15/1
Behindatthebar (KY) 10/1
Racecar Rhapsody (KY) 30/1
Big Brown (KY) 1/2
Kentucky Bear (KY) 15/1
Stevil (KY) 30/1
Riley Tucker (KY) 30/1
Giant Moon (NY) 30/1
Gayego (KY) 8/1
Hey Byrn (FL) 20/1
Well, if anyone is going to beat Big Brown, its going to be Icabad Crane. 'Icabad' has the same jockey up, Jeremy Rose, but more importantly, he's the only horse with a win over this track! That alone might be enough to upset Biggy! But in addition, Icabad Crane is a closer; he has what it takes to come from out of the clear blue sky and pounce on Big Brown at the wire!
Running in second, should be your overwhelming post time favorite, Big Brown. I'm expecting his betting odds at post time to be as low as 1/9. At any rate, no doubt, Big Brown looked super hot two weeks ago at the KY Derb, and he should be very impressive again. The only thing that may (or may not) be a cause for concern is his position. He's done all of his dominating from those outside slots, and the seven-hole is right in the middle. So, this means that Biggy's going to have to save some ground and make his move that way. And if he manages to make it, he'll most likely win the Triple Crown, but that's a story that will be told after Saturday.
Finally, someone in this talented beyond talented field has to be the best of the rest, and that's going to be Kentucky Bear. When he run third at Keeneland in the Bluegrass, that was only his third start, so maybe, in his fourth he'll be 3-4. (In the money-wise). Besides, Kentucky Bear's trainer flew him in early to get him some experience over the Pimlico O, and I like that. By Saturday, he'll know the surface, and he'll be ready!
Well folks, let's hope for a wonderful Preakness, most certainly accident free, and most of all, GOOD LUCK! Hurry back next week!
