The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation will use horse racing fans' contributions donated in Eight Belles memory to help fund important research into preventing equine musculoskeletal injuries. DONATE

The filly's necropsy report released today explained that Eight Belles suffered compound fractures of both front legs at the fetlock joint, and that there were no signs of pre-existing bone abnormalities. No disease or condition affecting her cardiovascular and pulmonary systems or other major organs were found; furthermore, there was no evidence of a heart-attack or aneurysm to explain why the horse suddenly collapsed as she galloped down after the race, about a quarter mile past the finish line.
