The latest theory over Big Brown's Belmont loss centers around one of his shoe's being dislodged early in the race. It's true, the pictures show not only the loose shoe on Brownie's rear right foot, but Guadalcanal stepping on that foot after they came out of the gate and Big Brown veered out in front of the horse. But, why is no one just as seriously addressing the photographic evidence about why Big Brown veered out in the first place? After all, the photos also show that it's very likely t... Read More
Big Brown is the center of debate after his Belmont loss, and I was pretty ballistic myself when he got eased out, but I've seen this happen to good horses all year. He never ran his race, it was over after a troubled first quarter.
Big Brown's jockey Kent Desormeaux looked like he wanted the pace to set up in front of him, watching for Da' Tara, who is happy to come over to the rail and grab the lead. But, on Monday, trainer Rick Dutrow revealed to the... Read More
38-1 lonshot DA'TARA has won the Belmont wire to wire by 5 1/4 lengths. A very rank BIG BROWN was eased into last out of the final turn. Big Brown was in trouble early, chasing pace setter Da' Tara and running up that foes' behind before the first turn, with Tale of Ekati coming forward to leave Big Brown with no immediate way out. Kent Desormeaux steadied Big Brown and moved out from behind the pace, bumping Anak Nakal, only to next be kept as much as six-wide off the pace by Ta... Read More
Big Brown is a deserving favorite to win the Belmont Stakes, already bet down to 1-4. But I don't like anything in this race to beat him, so I'll still use Big Brown to win the Test of Champions, and try to make a nice profit through the exotics. The trifecta and superfecta look open to some good prices beating horses favored for third and fourth: Tale of Ekati and Icabad Crane. Denis of Cork is the second choice to beat in the exacta, and may be worth taking a shot at there too. Obviou... Read More
Casino Drive was scratched from the Belmont Stakes this morning due to discomfort from a recently discovered stone bruise on his left hind. I was sorry to see the news. Even though I'm rooting for Big Brown, Casino Drive looked like a very worthy foe, and I figured them to be traveling evenly throughout most of the race, with a really thrilling duel down the stretch. I hope we get to see Casino Drive run here in the states again. I tried to knock this colt out of my Belmont ticket... Read More
