The Ups & Downs of Horse Racing The weekend of racing started at Churchill downs as Einstein bested the field in the Clark Handicap, a race that the connections of Curlin most likely should have run him in. Never second guessing Jess Jackson, but the feeling I get in my heart of hearts is that either they felt it was too soon for him to come back from his last start in the Breeders’ Cup Classic or they felt it would be an incredibly daunting task to ask him to run down Com... Zenyatta remains unbeaten after winning the Grade 1, $5 million Breeders Cup Ladies Classic in an unforgettable performance against seven rivals in the 1 1/8 mile race over Santa Anita's Pro-Ride track. After trailing the field as far back as 10 lengths behind, four-year-old Zenyatta bounded forward from outside of her rivals as they exited the final turn, drawing away in an effortless-looking performance, with her ears pricked up as she won by 1 1/2 lengths in her ninth straight victorious l... Why it was called a... Read More
The Breeders Cup has always been the most stressful of all the big race days for me--the Cup runeth over, big time. Fourteen championship races, two days, familiar heroes start to look quite vulnerable in very strong fields, and... euros, my god the euros... with their time form ratings, no points-of-call/beaten-lengths running line, Frankie Dettori doing backflips all over the place. Curlin, take me away. If you're still handicapping, welcome to the club. Here are the tools of the trad... Read More
The fields for the 2008 Breeders Cup World Championships are set, with a whopping 14 championship races to take place over the course of two days--Friday and Saturday, October 24th and 25th. This year's Breeders Cup features the all-time richest racehorse, four-year-old Curlin, with earnings of over $10 million, trying to become only the second horse to ever repeat winning the $5,000,000 BC Classic. The 2008 Breeders Cup also stars Zenyatta as the heavy favorite in the Ladies Classic--this fo... Read More
