Blog Entry: The fields for the 2008 Breeders Cup World Championships are set, with a whopping 14 championship races to take place over the course of two days--Friday and Saturday, October 24th and 25th. This year's Breeders Cup features the all-time richest racehorse, four-year-old Curlin , with earnings of over $10 million, trying to become only the second horse to ever repeat winning the $5,000,000 BC Classic. The 2008 Breeders Cup also stars Zenyatta as the heavy favorite in the Ladies Classic--this four-year-old filly is undefeated in eight lifetime starts. And if the more than 100 horses didn't have enough challenging contenders to test them, some of them will be competing over a new synthetic race-track surface as well, Sant Anita's Pro-Ride. In fact, the Breeders Cup Classic will be Curlin's first race over an all-weather track. The intrigue only continues to grow when we see what a unique Breeders Cup this will be with turf horses now running in the Classic--it's traditionally a dirt race, but smart trainers have been turning their turf horses into big threats over synthetic surfaces, wih European superstars Raven's Pass and Henrythenavigator set to meet Curlin in the Classic.
