Blog Entry: Colonel John has won the Grade 1, $1,000,000 Travers Stakes by barely a nose in front of Mambo in Seattle. The final time for the 1 1/4 mile dirt contest was 2:03.20. Garrett Gomez is the winning jockey. Pyro was third. A few quick notes on the race. Da' Tara set the pace, with Tizbig making a modest attempt to press. Colonel John was well-placed behind the leaders to make his attack when asked. Macho Again traveled in the middle of the field, but was checked in the lane. When advancing horses bumped in the outside of the lane Mambo in Seattle quickly got around them to come up and challenge Colonel John, as the Eoin Harty trainee accelerated past Da' Tara in the stretch. Colonel John and Mambo in Seattle dueled to the wire in an exciting photo finish, the Colonel prevailing by barely a nose.
